Simon leads the way

A star Walk Organiser, Simon Pitcher, has been recognised for his volunteer services with a ‘Fellow Award of the National Heart Foundation of Australia’.

Simon has led the Brisbane Wellness Walkers since 2016, and has been innovative and creative in the ways he has built up his group and encouraged more walking. Simon introduced afternoon and lunch time walks several times a week and occassional weekend bushwalks. To promote his group he started a Facebook page and a Meetup page, which helped to bring in new members.

“Simon is certainly part of the Heart Foundation family – apart from his wonderful work as a Walk Organiser, he has also raised funds for the Heart Foundation and walked with MPs to promote the program,” said Stephen Vine, Heart Foundation CEO of QLD/NT.

As part of the Heart Foundation’s 60th Anniversary, a number of people were recognised across Australia for their contributions to the National Heart Foundation. Simon was chosen for being an outstanding champion for Heart Foundation Walking, both in the workplace and in the community.

Accepting his award in Brisbane in April, Simon highlighted why he enjoys leading his walking group.

“I have seen many walkers reduce their weight, improve their fitness and gain more energy from regular walking. Plus I have often seen walker’s faces light up with joy and laughter when socially interacting with other members of the group”.

Congratulations Simon and thank you from all of us at HFW for all your efforts and time.
