Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to our Victorian COASTREKKERS!
Story submitted by Alicja Najbar-Kaszkiel (Walking Program Officer - Victoria)
We are extremely proud and truly appreciative of two Victorian Walking Groups who hiked by taking part in Coastrek at Mornington Peninsula. The Heart Foundation is this year's charity beneficiary of the walking fundraising event and it has been fantastic to see local Heart Foundation Walking participants get involved by trekking or volunteering on the day.
Three members of the Mighty West Walkers, Barbara, Jane and Lynette (who walk in Altona, Newport, Altona Meadows) walked the 20 km twilight trek, while four walkers from the Prahran Walkers walked the 30 km classic trek - a mammoth effort. And I was lucky enough to be there at the finish line to cheer them on!
After completing the event Barbara (Mighty West Walkers) said ..” I am very grateful having had the opportunity to participate and successfully complete the trek …. I also wanted to share the very positive broader impact our participation has had on our walking group. The other members have been very encouraging and very interested in our progress…. Furthermore, our longer training walks indicated that some of the fitter walkers are keen to include longer walks in our monthly walking program..’

Walk Organiser for Prahran Walkers Layla was so proud of her team – ‘A long day, full of ups and downs and barely able to walk by the end, but all SO worth it… huge congratulations to our Prahran Place team – Irene, Layla, Nadereh, and Arida!
