Step up and become a walk organiser

Are you ready to volunteer for a great cause? To kick off National Volunteer Week (19 – 25 May), we’re encouraging all our incredible supporters to step and start a Heart Foundation Walking group.

Being a walk organiser (which is what we call our walking group leaders) is a fantastic volunteer role that gets you, your acquaintances, neighbours and community walking together towards better heart health. You can set the pace and can choose where, how often and how far your group walks. Best of all, you can reap the benefits of making friendships along the way!

What’s involved?

As a walk organiser, you will:

  • attend walks and welcome new walkers
  • promote your walks and encourage your community to join your group.
If you prefer, you can register a private group (e.g., for your workplace, community group or family)
  • keep your walking group and contact details up to date
  • submit monthly attendance records so we can reward you and your walkers

We’ll support you every step of the way

We’re proud to support our walk organisers to get their communities up and walking. When you sign up, we’ll provide:

  • free promotional materials, such as brochures, flyers and editable posters, to help you help manage, promote and grow your group
  • free workshops, webinars and regular newsletters that provide information about walking for you and your group members
  • insurance cover. All registered walk organisers are covered by the Heart Foundation’s policy for volunteer walk organisers.

Register your walking group and win!

We’re giving away 20 x $50 VISA gift cards to anyone who steps up to become a walk organiser between 19 May 2025 and 30 June 2025. To be eligible to win, you’ll need to set up a new walking group and recruit a minimum of two walkers by 30 September.
